Welcome to Reception!

Our children have settled incredibly well this term! We have already learnt a lot about each other, through our topic ‘All About Me’, and have been busy making new friends. We recognise that we all have different likes and dislikes and choose to take part in different activities. We are focusing on listening carefully to our new friends and actively responding to questions asked about ourselves and talking about what we are ‘good at’ and want to get ‘better at’. The children have also built good relationships with the Reception team, Mrs Lacey and Ms Mitzman in Coral and Ms Bennett and Mrs Meacock in Sunstone.

We will be having lots of fun with our Talk for Writing activities, this half term enjoying ‘The Three Bears’! We will be designing our own chairs for baby bear using a variety of natural materials on a large and small scale and making our own tasty porridge to give mummy bear a hand!

Reception will be exploring additional stories rich in descriptive language through our topics this year which include, ‘Celebrations’ and ‘Oh no, It’s the Gruffalo!’, ‘The Weather’, ‘Growth and Change’ and ‘Africa’ including a visit in the summer to Whipsnade Zoo.

We are also very busy investigating our beautiful, natural outdoor environment and experiencing some Forest School based activities in our woodland area.

Reception are very much enjoying exploring their new environment both inside and out. We are looking forward to inviting our parents along to stay and play where we will play with activities which encourage dexterity and fine motor skills which are essential for mark making and emergent writing.
