The children have made a great start to their school life. They are already becoming more familiar with our daily routines and are learning to explore the areas of learning independently.
This term, the children will learn to develop their communication and listening skills through familiar role play situations, for example the Home Corner.
Throughout the year, we will be promoting independent good self-care practices such as washing hands after going to the toilet, looking after our belongings (shoes, coats, book bags), learning to do our shoes up.
Mark making through various media (paintbrush and water, sensory trays) is vital pre-writing skills and is part of our daily timetable. Every morning, the children will engage in Busy Fingers activities, such as threading, tweezing to develop their fine motor skills activities and promote good pencil grip.
In Nursery, we want to nurture the children’s love for learning mathematical concepts through fun counting songs, rhymes and games;
This year our school focus is on reading and we will be building on the children’s enjoyment of reading familiar stories and learn how to handle books appropriately.
Every week your child will take a library book home to read, share with you. Please write down any comments in your child’s communication book or simply draw a smiley face to let us know that your child has read his/her book. Initially their book will be changed weekly and we will review this after the October half-term.
Our PE session is on Mondays with Mr Rickman. Your child will need to wear comfortable jogging bottoms or leggings, a plain t-shirt and trainers (no shoe laces) to come to school on that day. The children will stay in their sports clothes for the rest of the session.
Outdoor learning will happen every day, unless the weather conditions are really extreme.
Punctuality is very important as Nursery starts their welcome activities as soon as they are in.
Please remember to use your child’s yellow home link book to communicate with us.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to a fabulous year in Nursery
