Things to do in Hertfordshire with children during the 2024 Summer Holidays

With the end of this school year fast approaching, we wanted to put together a list of local Hertfordshire family friendly events and activities for over the Summer Holidays. Most are in or around Watford and Hemel Hempstead.

Not all events have been tried and tested by us, so please do read more detail about them on their own websites and keep an eye on any updates.

> Mon 8th July | Riverside Beach | Hemel Hempstead | FREE
The perfect place for the kids to have endless fun this Summer whilst you take a seat in the sunshine on one of our picnic tables, after a spot of shopping! Open 10am-4pm.

> Thu 25th July – Thu 29th Aug | Children’s Workshops | Hemel Hempstead | FREE
Riverside Shopping Centre are hosting a variety of free events over the Summer Holidays, including Lego Workshop, Sand Art and Mini Olympics.

> Fri 9th Aug | Family Fun Day | Hemel Hempstead Town Centre | FREE
Enjoy pavement chalk, Arts & Crafts, Bubbles & Games

> Mon 5th – Sun 11th Aug | Big Screen | Watford | FREE
The Big Screen returns to the town centre this Summer. The Big Screen is FREE and no booking is required, just turn up and enjoy the outdoor cinema experience!

> Sat 17th August | Family Fun Day | Watford | FREE
Head down to George V Playing Fields, for a free family fun day, with fun fair rides, bouncy castles, inflatables & more.

> Fri 16th – Fri 30th Aug | Big Beach | Watford | FREE
With Watford Borough Council’s Big Beach, you don’t need to travel to the coast to feel the sand between your toes – just head to The Parade in the Town Centre!

> Jul & Aug | Miniature Railway | Watford | £2.50 per person, under 2s are free
The Watford Miniature Railway is located in Cassiobury Park and offers short train rides all year round.

> July & Aug | Cassiobury Park Splash Pools | Watford | FREE
Situated in Cassiobury Park, there are two splash pools, 30 splash pads, water jets and fountains for children to play in and enjoy during the summer months.

> 16th, 17th & 18th Aug | Flamstead Scarecrow Festival | Flamstead | From £2
The Flamstead Scarecrow Festival is held each year throughout Flamstead Village. Residents display Scarecrows on their property or around the village. There will be a map of Scarecrows posted on the website before the festival starts.

> Thu 22 Aug – Mon 26th Aug | Summer Funfair | Harpenden | Free
Join the fun on Harpenden Common with the return of exciting rides and fairground stalls!

> 17th – 26th Aug | Colourscape | Watford | From £4
Colourscape returns to Cassiobury Park with a full ten day festival. Enter a new world of colour and light. Explore a unique labyrinth of 70 interlinked chambers of intense colours and discover musicians and dancers interacting with you.
