Principal’s Welcome

I would like to warmly welcome you to Hammond Academy’s website.

I am incredibly proud to be the Acting Principal of Hammond Academy, a Hemel Hempstead Primary School with currently over 500 children on roll. Having been Deputy Principal here for two years, I have really grown to love this school and its community.

I feel honoured to lead such a wonderfully dedicated and professional team of staff who are very passionate about what they do. They work incredibly hard to ensure that our children are not only happy and make academic progress but that they are given the best opportunities and experiences possible. Being part of Aspire Academies Trust (MAT) also brings huge advantages for our staff and pupils: excellent CPD opportunities are available for our staff and the chance to work collaboratively and closely with other schools means that we are able to ensure that the provision we have for our pupils is of the highest quality.

What I love most about this school, and I am sure you will do too, is that not only do we offer a broad and balanced curriculum which excites and engages our pupils, but that we nurture our children throughout their learning journeys here so that they grow in self-confidence as individuals. We understand that without self-belief, children will not go onto prosper. Our‘Grow, Achieve, Believe’ ethos is an infinite cycle: the more someone believes in themselves; the more they will take courageous risks with their learning and the more they will go on to grow as individuals. This is why boosting children’s self-esteem is at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our pupils to challenge themselves and we whole heartedly believe in the Growth Mind-set: if you put your mind to something and you persevere, you can achieve what you want to achieve. Failing and making mistakes is a positive thing and we promote the discussion of this– from our mistakes, we learn.

We encourage our children to become curious and reflective so that by the time they leave us at the end of Year six, they are intrinsically motivated to go on to become life-long learners: to succeed, both academically and socially.

Our school places a strong emphasis on the development of well-rounded individuals. We are incredibly lucky at Hammond Academy to have lovely outdoor spaces, including a woodland area which we use as a great stimulus for our learning. We have fantastic sports coaches who also run various clubs at lunch times and after school and we have entered and won several competitions within the Borough.

To ensure the well-being and academic success of our pupils, we strongly believe in working in close partnership with parents/carers; we both want what is best for your child and it is essential for children to see us as a team. We have an open door policy and we always really appreciate any volunteers that can help with reading, on curriculum days and school trips – we and the children love when our parents/carers get involved!

If you would like to arrange a visit to Hammond Academy, please contact the school via phone or email. We look forward to welcoming you.
